Our meeting on August 10th with Mr. Schachler, the Canadian CEO of Arcelor Mittal Dofasco, was a great start to what promises to be a successful campaign.

Agenda items included:

- - Alternative Standards Discussion - what technologies is Dofasco looking to implement as part of their technology benchmarking process

- - Increase in Communication - how does AM-Dofasco plan to communicate the goings-on in their facilities with the surrounding communities (ie. fallout warnings)

- - Immediate Items of Concern - how can the environmental team at Dofasco address resident's immediate concerns regarding noise, odour, and truck idling

In general, we were pleased with the positive response to the issues we raised. In the past few weeks, we have been working with AM-Dofasco to get simple things implemented, such as putting up an extension on an existing noise barrier, identifying and solving a commonly noted 'whooshing' noise problem, and reducing idling and fugitive dust emissions in a truck parking lot on Beach Road.
